Through
Ransomware the cyber criminals take your data over and then claim ransom for
not publishing those online. However, there is no guarantee that the criminals
will not release your data even after you pay them. So, staying away from
Ransomware should be your top priority right now!
Handling
Ransomware attack is all about prevention as once infected or rather
data-taken-over there is practically nothing can be done to avert the damage.
To prevent
Ransomware attacks the following steps are highly recommended:
1. Do not open emails/attachments from suspicious addresses.
2. Do not use TOR browser, torrent sites, porn sites etc.
3. Do not install unauthorised applications from unverified sources.
4. Keep regular data back-up on multiple storage media, like Google Drive or OneDrive.
5. On Windows systems, configure Systems Restore Points, allocating sufficient disk size.
6. Configure to protect. Put access restrictions to important data files.
7. Use latest antivirus software and keep it updated.
8. Keep all of your devices safe and protected in the same manner as Ransomware may attack any device at random.
