কম্পিউটারের মাউসের কাজ শুধু ডান, বাঁ ক্লিকেই শেষ নয়। মাউস দিয়ে এমন অনেক মজার আর দরকারি কাজ করা যায় যেটা অনেকেরই অজানা এমন কিছু কাজের উদাহরণ দেওয়া হলো:- 

  • শিফট কি আর ক্লিক
সম্পাদনার সব প্রোগ্রামই লেখার নির্দিষ্ট অংশ নির্বাচনের সুবিধা দিয়ে থাকে। আপনি যদি চান একটা পাতার লেখার শুধু মাঝখানের কয়েক লাইন নির্বাচন করবেন তবে সেই লেখার লাইনের শুরুতে একটা মাউসের বাম বোতাম চেপে কি-বোডের্র শিফট বোতাম চেপে ধরুন, যেখানে শেষ করবেন সেখানে গিয়ে মাউসে আরেকবার ক্লিক করলেই নির্দিষ্ট লেখাগুলো নির্বাচিত হয়ে যাবে এবং প্রয়োজনে সেটিকে কাট, কপি করতে পারবেন।

  • চাকার ব্যবহার

মাউসের চাকা বা স্ক্রল সাধারণত কোনো পৃষ্ঠাকে ওঠানামা করার কাজে ব্যবহৃত হয়ে থাকে। কিন্তু জানেন কি এই চাকা মাউসের তৃতীয় বোতাম হিসেবেও কাজ করে থাকে। ইন্টারনেট ব্যবহারের সময় কোনো ওয়েব ঠিকানার ওপর মাউসের কারসর রেখে স্ক্রল বোতাম চাপলে সেই সংযোগ আলাদা একটি ট্যাবে খুলে যাবে। কাঙ্ক্ষিত সাইটের কোনো পৃষ্ঠাকে বড় বা ছোট করে করে দেখতে চাইলে Ctrl কি চেপে মাউসের স্ক্রল উপরে-নিচে ঘোরালেই চলে। পাতাটি পর্যায়ক্রমে জুম-ইন, জুম-আউট হতে থাকবে

  • ক্লিক করে নির্বাচন

কোনো লেখার একটি শব্দের ওপর দুই ক্লিক করলে সেটা নির্বাচন করা যায়। যদি পুরো প্যারা নির্বাচন করতে চান, তাহলে তিন ক্লিক করতে হবে। অনেক সময় কম্পিউটারে কোনো কাজ সম্পন্ন করতে সতর্কতামূলক বার্তা আসে এবং Yes বা No নির্বাচন করতে বলে। ডিফল্ট অ্যাকশন যদি Yes হয়, তাহলে মাউসের Snap To অপশন ব্যবহার করলে স্বয়ংক্রিয়ভাবে মাউসের কারসর Yes বোতামের কাছে চলে যাবে। এতে করে মাউস না ঘুরিয়ে কাজটি সম্পন্ন করতে এক ক্লিকের প্রয়োজন হবে। জন্য কম্পিউটারের কন্ট্রোল প্যানেল থেকে Mouse-এর Properties- যান। এখানে Pointer Options ট্যাবের Snap To-এর পাশে টিক চিহ্ন দিয়ে Apply বোতামে ক্লিক করলে কাজটি হবে। এখন যেকোনো ডিফল্ট অ্যাকশনের জন্য মাউসের কারসর সেখানে স্বয়ংক্রিয়ভাবে চলে যাবে

Increasing functionality:


      1.   Setting up a new Printer- 
      

     now a days it is more easier to install a new printer on modern computers. You need to just plug the printer with the computer via USB cable to the USB ports and Operating System will do the rest.  Setting up a printer is essential for home, office or using a computer for business purposes like for a school because they all need to print instant.

      2.    Setting up a Home Network: 
      

     networks allow multiple computers to interact with each other and share documents, files and even Internet in a limited range. Connecting all computers and devices allows you to quick access to your devices and also you can request any file from other device. Setting up a network requires a router or hub or switch. They are same kind of hardware to connect all the devices with Ethernet or Wireless. 

      3.   Installing a webcam or microphone- 
        

     you need a webcam if you wish to video chat with family and friends using Skype, google+, facebook etc. microphone requires for the audio input into computer. Webcams and microphones generally installed automatically after plugging them into computer.  If they don’t install automatically then you need to install them manually like other software installation.

      4.   Adding audio output device (Speakers)- 
        

     if you want a bit high sound then you can use external speaker instead of  your laptop’s built in speaker. If you are a desktop user then you must require an external audio output device. Generally computers have built in connectors for speaker or headphone.  Computer speakers are generally color coded just match colored connectors to correct port.

Connecting to the Internet

  1. Setting up connection: computer will need to have access to an Internet connection that may come from a wireless network or you can connect it with a local area network directly or you can connect it with a modem. And all these are dependent on how the network is configured and compatibility of your computer.

  Ø If a wireless network (WI-FI) is available at your location you can use it to access internet through connecting your device with the network. You can find available wireless networks on the right corner on your task bar. Or you can find it from network setting of your PC.

  Ø You can also connect your computer with the Internet via Ethernet cable if you are close enough Internet access point. Wired connection is likely faster than wireless connection.


   2.  Opening a web browser: the web browser is a software that allow you to visit web pages, watch online videos, download or upload files.  If your current operating system is Windows than you have a pre-installed (Default) web browser named “Internet Explorer”, if you are a Linux user than you have “Fire Fox” and if you use Mac OS then you have “Safari” as default browser.  There are many other web browsers like, chrome, opera, torch etc. you can download and install any web browser and browse Internet.

Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome are the most popular Web browser. Both are free from the developer company. Firefox has more strong security and many security options.

   3. Using antivirus: it would be a wise decision to install an antivirus before starting web browsing. Antivirus protect the computer from the viruses, Trojans, malicious traffic, and harmful programs and sites.

   4. Safe browse of Internet: be careful during surfing the Internet because there are a lot of bad staffs on Internet.

How to Use a Computer

Learning Basic Computer Commands:


    1. Selecting Text and Files: both mouse and keyboard can be used to select your files on your computer or to select a text.

          ·    Using mouse: Just click and drag the mouse across the files or text you want to select.
        ·  Using Keyboard: to select your desired text or files just press and hold Shift button and press right or bottom arrow.  If you want to select all the files or text on your current location then press Ctrl+A (PC) or  Cmd+A (Mac).


    2. Copy and Paste: copy and paste is the most common actions during selecting text or file. Copying a file means creating a duplicate of the same file with same properties.

    When you crate copy something it copied to clip board of your computer. You can then paste the copied file or text to your desired location.

         ·   Mouse: after selecting the files or text right click on your mouse and you can find an action named copy just click on copy to copy. As same as copy go to location where you want to put copy of the file or text and right click on your mouse and click on Paste to complete copy.
       ·   You can also use keyboard shortcuts to copy and press. Press Ctrl+C copy and press Ctrl+V to paste.

   3. Opening and saving files: Many applications allow you to create and save a new document/file.

  It is clever to save often, while using any of these type of application. Most of the applications allow to save quickly by pressing Ctrl+S (for PC) or  Cmd+S (for Mac).


  4. Setting up backup system: all operating system have built in backup systems.

  5. Find and sort: as using computer more personal collection of data may increase day by day and it may start to get out of control.

1.  Getting Started :


a. Setting up the computer:


·       If you are going to use a desktop you need to find a place and put your desktop and then connect monitor, keyboard, and mouse and also need to plug power.  You can connect more peripherals and accessories.

·       If you have a new laptop then you need to plug it into a power source and press power button to open it.

b.  Creating a user Account:

If you are using the computer for first time then you may asked to create a user account after opening it. The account will hold all your user files like downloads, pictures, music, documents etc.

·       To protect your computer from unauthorized access you should create a strong password.


c.  Getting familiar with the desktop:

Desktop is the main working are of a computer. When you turn on your PC every time desktop will appear. Mainly it contains shortcuts, icons, and most useful documents.

·       Windows operating systems (before windows 8) are structured by Start menu in the lower-left corner which allows you to quick access into your settings and programs.
·       Windows 8 and newer versions are associated with a start screen instead of start menu.
·       OS X allows you to use multiple desktops at a time.

d.  Learn mouse and keyboard:

You can interact with the computer by using mouse and keyboard.

Learn how to use a mouse to navigate.
Your mouse allows for pinpoint navigation and control, and is necessary for a wide variety of activities. Getting familiar with how to use the mouse will go a long way towards making you a more proficient computer user.

· Practice some keyboard shortcuts to improve your work flow.
Keyboard shortcuts are combinations of keyboard keys that perform a function in the program or operating system you are using. For example, in most programs that allow saving files, pressing Ctrl+S (⌘ Cmd+S on a Mac) will automatically save your current file.
